The protection of workers' health against the negative direct and indirect impact of electromagnetic fields is covered by European Directive 2004/40/EC, the EMF Directive. At the moment, the final implementation date of this Directive has been delayed until 30 April 2012. This allows a detailed assessment of the likely impact of the Directive on the safety and health of workers, and of the social, health and economic impact on stakeholders who may be affected by its implementation.
The purpose of this Workshop is to provide a platform for a discussion of issues related to the EMF Directive. It is held as part of EMF Impact - a project that will inform European Commission policy discussions regarding the possible future amendment of directive 2004/40/EC. The workshop is supported by the European Commission via the PROGRESS programme and organized by a European Consortium (FICETTI). It will include up-to-date information on the current situation in Member States and discuss projected outcomes of the Commission's various possible policy options.
Although the Workshop will focus on different policy options for the future development of the EMF Directive, other perspectives beyond the responses to these questions are welcome as well, and these also will provide input to the impact analysis.
The workshop is open for anyone to attend, and the agenda will include a session for anyone in the audience to make brief contributions.
